Caloric Intake

Yesterday's total caloric intake--725
Today's total caloric intake--428

Oh how I long for a salad and a steak or chicken. Hell, at this point, I'd probably even eat pig.

I've lost 5 pounds since Sunday.

That is good...

The method, not so much.

POP goes the jaw..

Friday was a pretty crappy day. I was doing my range of motion exercises and my right jaw popped. And kept popping. And is still popping today. I called my oral surgeon to see what the deal was...he says it's healing and part of the normal processes. I say bullshit. I have a sinking feeling.....
I did get my stitches out Thursday and got an excellent on my range. I am still on a soft diet and will be for the next month. They said I am supposed to still be in a lot of pain and the feeling like I've been beaten up is the norm.

Isaiah had an appointment today with his neurologist at Children's. His migraines have increased in a BIG way the past few months and we needed to get him some relief. He has a new med to take daily as a preventative as well as a med to take if he does get a migraine. We got him some lunch, got his scripts filled and we're hanging out at home now. He gets 2 teeth pulled on Wednesday in preparation for his braces. He has one more tooth to be pulled next Wednesday. He gets his braces June 4th. He could have gotten them sooner but since school is winding down and the Tremont trip is coming up we decided to wait for school to be out.
He brought home his mid-term Friday and had terrific grades; only 1 C this time! He is still having to wear the splint for his finger. I don't see any improvement in it but I am assuming it is healing.

Arissa is full of piss and vinegar these days. I am seeing the beginnings of pre-teen 'tude and if she keeps it up....she won't live to see 10! I'll leave it at that!

Me? Mom of the Year? HA!

So I went wheeling into Dr James' office today with Isaiah. Boy has a terrible cough/cold/snot thing going on and my efforts to self medicate weren't working (he has a cold; I was treating with allergy meds...case in point of why MD isn't after my name). While we were there, I asked Dr J to check out Isaiah's finger. He hurt it playing neighborhood football last week and it was still pretty swollen and very sore. There is a very good reason for that...it's BROKEN. Not sprained. Not jammed. BROKEN. I feel like a real heal since I basically brushed off his complaints. I've apologized several times to the fellow and he's been very gracious about my flub. He did say that if I felt that bad not to think twice about buying him a gift.

I went to work yesterday and today. Both days I spent about four hours and came home in serious pain. I get very sore and it even makes my ears hurt. I see my oral surgeon tomorrow to get my stitches out and not sure what else. Hopefully I get a good report.

Mass with Pope

That is how I spent my Sunday. It was pretty cool to watch. I didn't see anybody I know but do have a question regarding the attire of some of the higher-ups. I also have complaints about the behavior of those in attendance. It was held in a stadium, I get that. HOWEVER, it was still a sacred place and the chanting and whoops and such were just not cool. I dig that the Pope is the "the man" but acting like it was bottom of the 9th versus the Red Sox for the pennant was more than my strict Catholic church behavior guidelines could handle. I did learn the Pope-Mobile is a modified Mercedes. Wonder if his Navigation Nelly acts up like Heathers does?

I planned on going to work today but decided to give myself one more day. I am sorest today so decided I'd hang out in my comfy bed. I plan on rolling in tomorrow even if just for a few hours. I feel like I've been punched in the jaws. I asked Steven if he punched me and he insists he didn't! I wonder why it took this long for the pain to really start? From what I can tell, the pops and clicks are gone. I am anxious for my appt on Thursday to hear how everything is doing and to get these stupid stitches out.

My food options have gotten very old. Being a grown up means a diet of mac & cheese, jell-o and pudding isn't very appealing after the 2nd day.

Some of my favorite people are traveling this week. Carol is off to DC for her yearly pilgrimage with her 8th graders and Heather and crew are off to Daytona for a week of fun in the sun for Spring Break. Prayers for safety and sanity for all is appreciated!

Post Op Day 2

No pics today...there isn't much difference from yesterday. I did, however, take a shower and wash my hair. That was interesting. My incisions sting so washing my hair was a little tricky. I changed the sheets on the bed too so now I am set. The kids spent the night with Kathy last night and Steven has gone to a funeral so it's just me, my laptop, clean sheets and bad 1980's movies. I think I'm headed for a nap shortly.

The numbness is pretty much completely worn off. I wouldn't use the word 'pain' to describe what I feel; more like very uncomfortable. I'm being careful about what I eat and using the ice wraps after I do my exercises. The nose pain (from the breathing tube they put down it) is improving. I am still trying to figure out why I have blood in my ears and when I am going to finally get it all out. I feel a bit like I've been beaten up.

Arissa had a great birthday. I got to see her for about 20 minutes between my parents taking her to dinner and then her spending the night with Aunt Kathy. As long as she's happy, that's all that matters to me. She is having issues being around me b/c of the stitches. She said she can't look at me. I know she doesn't mean it in a hateful way. Isaiah said I was talking in my sleep yesterday afternoon and I scared him. Apparently I yelled something and he came to see what was going on and my eyes were open but were rolling back in my head. Poor kids are going to have nightmares! Aunt Heather can attest to my sleeping talking skills! Apparently pain meds make me do odd things in my sleep.

YUM! Birthday sundae!!

Silly faced girl!

No more carseat! WOOT!!

Post Op Day 1 Pics

I am still kinda numb so the pain is minimal. I've started my range of motion PT exercises to make sure my jaws don't lock up and I get the best results possible from this. The swelling has gone down, probably because of the constant ice packs from yesterday.
Carol came to lay in bed with me for awhile yesterday so that was nice.
Today is Arissa's 9th birthday. She took a cookie cake to school and my parents are taking her to dinner tonight.

Day of Pics

I am doing okay. I'm high as a kite and numb still. The doctor said tomorrow and Saturday would be the worst.
I was very pleased with the Day Surgery Dept. at UT. I've never dealt with them and they were all super nice. The anesthesiologist even fixed Momma a cup of coffee. I figured he'd have a nurse do it but nope...he did it himself and Momma said he makes good cup of coffee.

Sassy Girl

The growing up way too fast Arissa, home from the mall with her loot!
The super cute purse on her shoulder came from her Aunt Carol.

This week has been trying. Tuesday evening even BEFORE I worked out I felt a headache coming on. I tried really hard to ignore it and still trained but by the time Steven and I got done at the store I felt wretched. Wednesday I had pre-op appointments that I couldn't miss so I forged on, trying to medicate and ignore along the way. Got home from that long process and had Steven take me to the doctor for some relief. They gave me a shot of Demerol and Phenegran and sent me home. I got about an hour of relief before the pain started creeping back in. Steven had to go to work so I decided that if it was still bad in the morning, I'd have him take me to the ER. When he got home the next morning he was dead on his feet so then I decided I'd let him sleep awhile and then he could take me. I fell back asleep with him and when I woke up it was gone. GOOD!! The next morning was the ribbon cutting ceremony for Sara's store and by the time I left there at noon, I could feel the pain starting. I went on into the office and forged ahead until 3ish. Finally about 6pm I told Steven I had to get some relief. I thought my brain was going to explode. I sat straight up, hugging my knees for 2 dark hours before the ER brought me 2 of the most painful shots I have ever gotten. I had managed not to cry the whole week, cause crying makes your head hurt worse, and these shots put me over the edge. I was sweating, crying, and miserable. Poor Steven's face said a million words. I think it all hurt him more than it hurt me. Good news, though...the Stadol/Compozine combo finally knocked the headache OUT!!!!

Today we did Arissa's birthday celebration. Her actual birthday is this Friday but since my TMJ surgery is this Thursday we decided to move it up a bit. She asked for chicken wings, macaroni and cheese, fruits and veggies. We also had jumbo vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting and Birthday Cake flavor ice cream. The kid wanted cold hard cash this year so she could go shopping. She was so ready to go shopping that she didn't even wait for her guests to leave and she and I were on our way to the mall. Luckily, our family understands so we didn't hurt any
feelings (well, I hope we didn't anyways). We hit Limited Too, Sephora, Claire's, and Victoria's Secret (for me; not her!). She is sick (allergies) so she was more than ready to go. She is playing now with a few of her purchases!

Not sure if I'll post before my surgery. The professionals say it should be about a week. In Anne time that should equal to a good month! They did say it would take 6-8 weeks to get back to normal but the really icky part should be a week.

T minus 14 days

I always wondered what the 'T' means....Anyone? Anyone?

So this week finds me feeling better than my last post. I slept until noon both Sunday and Monday and that seems to have helped my energy level.

This week found us busy. Monday was an orthodontist conference to get the game plan for Isaiah; Tuesday was the 3rd grade musical; Wednesday was church. Tonight we are hanging out at home staying out of the rain.

This weekend we have a birthday party to attend and Arissa has to get her hair done with Aunt Connie. I need to get this house cleaned up since next weekend I'll be busy with the store grand opening and then Arissa's birthday celebration. My surgery is the following Thursday so I want to be sure and have a clean house before then.

Not much else to report...
